Soul Patrol around the World! Access Hollywood caught up with Taylor Hicks at the Rehearsal Studio before launching his Spring and Summer Tour. Here's what he had to say.
I've been in this Rehearsal Studio for about two and a half weeks. I'm ready to be out on the road and start touring. I've been a "caged animal" for like a year and a half.
(Don't miss our coverage of "All The Places I've Been" )
On Idol, I was allowed, like two and a half minutes, then I went home and saw my band. (coverage of American Idol Goes Home Parade).
Feb 21st 2007 in Jacksonville Florida, "I get to let loose, let it ALL hang out".
There was alot of "pent up energy" going through it up until this point. And now its just this "huge tour" that I am about to go on, it's a dream.
Performing Live:
That's kinda the reason I wanted to get to this point because the Touring aspect of being an artist is exactly that, being an Artist, being in it's own enviornment, and you get to call all the shots and write all the checks.
Interviewer: American Idol, they have an idea of what they "want you guys to be", and I'm sure that they have alot more say than you want them to have.
Hicks says- I think as an artist, you want every song of your own on your own albums, but the songs coming to the artist through other artists and writers, that's the kind of "next step" that I'm going to go into, collaborating.
I did do some collaboration on this last album. I think eventually you want to get to that point, where you are writing your own albums. You have to start small. This album was a great baby step for me in the writing process.
Why Clubs and Theatres? My thinking, and my managagement's thinking, is to start small, because if you go too big, you really don't have any where else to go.
So, I think with a Theatre Tour, and the Club Tour, is probally the best suited musical venue for me. I think THAT is where my music thrives,. The theatres and the great Music halls.
Hicks created two previous albums before American Idol Season 5 which have been available at all his shows. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After winning American Idol through all the votes casted, Hicks went on a very long Media Blitz to promote the song, "Do I Make You Proud" and being the winner of American Idol Season 5.
He next headlined the American Idol Season 5 Tour in a unprecidented 60 Venue Performances across the United States in a short 3 month period, while staying focused on the work at hand.
As with the AI5 show, Taylor Hicks was instrumental in the memorable success of Season 5 and the Sell Out Tour. His work ethics contributed to the success of the Idol Tour, while others were working on their careers and albums. Do I Make You Proud reached No. 2 on the Top Billboard.
No making an American Idol "Pop Star" out of this Artist. He is truly a working Musician.
I got my own way to rock, got my own way to roll! When you talk that talk, it's music in our soul.
